Current Activities
ERRS is continuing to solidfy and remove the solids in the creek.  The waste soil generated during the creek cleanup was added to the Upper Bell pond as solidification material.  The solids are being shipped off-site for disposal to Chemical Waste Management, Kettlman City, CA.

On April 23, 2008, OSC Wise, START, ERRS, PST and the California Dept. of Fish and Game conducted the final creek walk.  The creek has been approved for restoration to begin.  Restoration is expected to begin on April 25, 2008.  

A pipe discovered on April 21, 2008 in the northern end of the pond, released several hundred gallons of oily water into the pond being excavated.  After observing the decrease in the liquid level in the adjacent pond and speaking to the Bell Lease Greka Production Foreman, it is believed that this pipe is interconnected with the truck washout area in the adjacent pond.  The pipe was temporarily plugged by ERRS.  The pipe will be removed once the solids have been removed.

In addition, the pipe through which the oil originally leaked was uncovered and found to be completely corroded.  The pipe will be removed along with any subsurface contamination once the solids have been removed.


Planned Removal Actions
1.  Removal of the solids.
2.  Solidification of liquids in Baker tanks for disposal
3.  Restoration of the creek.


Next Steps
The liquids from the Baker tanks will be mixed with Perlite and solidified.  It is much more cost effective to solidify the liquids on-site.

Key Issues
1.  Interconnection with the adjacent pond.
2.  Unknown structures in the bottom of the pond.
