Current Activities
**Wednesday June 16, 2004: (1-OSC, 2-START, 9-EQM, 7- CASCADE ABATEMENT, 2- USCG PST, 1-ADVANTAGE) EPA, START, ERRS, CASCADE ABATEMENT,PST are on site.  Continuation of air sampling equipment for asbestos by START.   Abatement subcontractors conducted abatement work on buildings 146, 152, 158, 160 and 164.   ERRS demolished building 111.  ODEQ asbestos inspector on site for site walk.  Located steam pipe and cement asbestos board siding on BLM and FAA property.  Harney county Judge and County Commissioner visited site and met with the OSC.  Reporter from the Burns Times Herald on site and interviewed the OSC.  START collected more bulk samples for asbestos analysis.  

***Thursday, June 17, 2004 (1-OSC, 9-EQM, 2-START 2- USCG PST, 7- CASCADE ABATEMENT, 1-ADVANTAGE) ERRS demolished building 109, 160, and 166.  ERRS loaded debris from demolished buildings into debris containers.  Abatement contractor finished abatement on buildings 147 and 151.  OSC found mountain bluebird nest in building 158 and in ceiling of 147 and Kestrel/Merlin nest in 155.  All have live nestings.  OSC contacted wildlife rehabilitator.  USCG PST worked on field site-specific Site Safety Plan, and conducted sight safety monitoring in the field.  ODEQ project manager on site to conduct site walk.  

***Friday, June,18, 2004  (1-OSC, 2-START, 9-EQM, 2- USCG PST, 7-CASCADE, 1ADVANTAGE)
START conducted air sampling.  OSC and START removes two mountain bluebird nests and one raptor nest with four young.  OSC drove to Canyon City and transferred them to wildlife rehabilitator. ERRS demolished building 146.  Abatement crews abated building 130, 133, 143, and 149.  Nuprecon shear operator member arrives on site.  OSC and START to conduct soil wipe sampling for PCB's in building 200 and other areas on site.  PST finishes site-specific safety plan.  USCG conducted Site Safety monitoring.

***Saturday, June, 19, 2004, (1-OSC, 2- USCG PST, 2-START, 9-EQM, 7-CASCADE ABATEMENT, 1-NUPRECON, 1-ADVANTAGE)Abatement subcontractors completed abatement in buildings 155 and 165.  ERRS demolished buildings 152, 158, and 164 (boiler room) and  continued to seperate metal from the debris.   PST continued to monitor work being accomplished and safety of crew.  OSC is off site until Monday, 21, June, 2004.

***Sunday, 20, June, 2004  (1-OSC, 2-START, 2-USCG PST, 9-EQM, 7- CASCADE ABATEMENT, 1-NUPRECON, 1-ADVANTAGE)  No work conducted.  Security on site.

***Monday, 21, June, 2004 (1-OSC, 2-START, 2-USCG PST, 9 EQM, 7-CASCADE ABATEMENT, 1-NUPRECON, 1-ADVANTAGE) START conducted air samples of site.  PST monitoring contractors.  EQM demolished 143 and 147 and continuing to separate metal from debris. Abatement crews abated building 149 and prepared building 159.  


Planned Removal Actions
- EPA will demolish the metal-framed quonset hut buildings and remove Asbestos Floor Tile.   - EPA will demolish the radome building to provide access to excavate PCB-contaminated soils.  - ODEQ will demolish other buildings on site under separate contract with EPA's ERRS contractor

Next Steps
ERRS to finish demolishing building 151, 149, and 159.  The Abatement subcontractor will abate buildings 159, 206, 207, and 200.  

  


Key Issues
OSC found 2 mountain bluebird nests with nestlings and 1 raptor (kestrel or merlin) nest with 4 young.  OSC transferred birds to Canyon City, Oregon to the ODFW office.  They transferred them to Pedleton, Oregon to a wildlife rehabilitator.

 
Disposition Of Wastes
Shipment of waste containers are done by one truck hauling two containers.  Weights are received for the combination of both. The weights represented below are the total weight received divided in half for each shipment. The weight listed below does not represent actual weight of individual containers.
