Current Activities
***Monday, October 11, 2004: (1-OSC, 1-START, 6-ERRS, 1-ODEQ).  Mobilized back to the site to address the removal and disposal of PCB-contaminated steel and soil from building 200 (Radome); removal of stockpiled PCB-contaminated soils from buildings 206 and 133; removal of additional pieces of cement asbestos board (CAB) and asbestos floor tile from the entire site; and demolition of buildings 204, 206, and 181 (ODEQ funded) .  OSC and START marked out six areas on site 6 feet by 6 feet and photo document the volume of CAB and floor tile pieces within that area.  The START will photo document after the area has been cleaned by ERRS.  Two excavators arrived on site, one with a bucket and one with a hydraulic hammer.  A water truck also arrived on site.  

***Tuesday, October 12, 2004: (1-OSC, 1-START, 6-ERRS, 1-ODEQ).  ERRS loaded three trucks with PCB-contaminated soils and steel from building 200.  ERRS workers picked up loose pieces of CAB and floor tile from around the site - these are pieces that surfaced after rain and wind events since the cleanup in June.  Another 2 excavators arrived on site.  One excavator had a hydraulic hammer attachment and would be used on the building demolition while the other was a small bobcat excavator to remove PCB-soils around concrete pilings.   ERRS demolished half of building 204.  START collected 4 soil samples from building 200 excavation and 2 wipe samples from the excavator bucket.   ODEQ Anderson on site to conduct site walk and to analyze on- and off-site soils for lead contamination using portable x-ray fluorescence detector.  

***Wednesday, October 13, 2004: (1-OSC, 1-START, 6-ERRS)  ERRS finished removing CAB and tile pieces from the site.  ERRS loaded 4 trucks with PCB-contaminated soil and steel from building 200 and PCB-contaminated soil from near building 133 and 206.  START used immunoassay test kits to analyze the samples collected on Tuesday.  Results indicated that the wipe samples were non detect, however several of the soil samples were greater than the action level.  ERRS continued excavation.  START collected 10 soil samples from completed excavation and then analyzed them with test kits.   Results indicated that only one area was above the action level.  ERRS completed demolition of buildings 206 and 204.  ERRS continued to size up the debris pile and cut re-bar (ODEQ funded)

***Thursday, October 14, 2004: (1-OSC, 1-START, 6 ERRS)  ERRS loaded 1 truck with PCB-contaminated soils and with ACM debris from the site and from building 151.   ERRS cut  re-bar off of concrete in building 204 and 206 debris field. ERRS backfilled excavation area inside of building 200's foundation using native soils from around the foundation.  START collected one soil sample from excavation of building 200 (area previously found to exceed action level).  START conducted photo documentation of the site including the six 6 foot by 6 foot test areas.  

***Friday, October 15, 2004.  (6 ERRS).  ERRS demolished building 181 and welded a steel plate on the manway entrance on Tank 800.  ERRS removed steel beams from building 206 debris and removed any pieces of re-bar sticking out of the debris pile. OSC and START demobilized.

***Saturday, October 16, 2004.  ERRS demobilized.

Disposition Of Wastes
To date, four waste streams have been transported off site for disposal.  The waste streams include asbestos-containing material (ACM) demolition debris, friable ACM, clean demolition debris, and PCB-contaminated soil and metal.  Most waste was disposed of in June 2004, while an additional quantity of ACM debris and PCB waste was disposed of in October 2004.  Total estimated quantities for these waste streams are provided below.
