On Wednesday 4/6 EPA was informed that a release of elemental mercury had occurred inside a private residence and that mercury had been inadvertently tracked into two additional houses. On Friday 4/8 the NYSDEC verbally requested EPA assistance at the Site. On Saturday 4/9 an OSC was deployed to the scene to commence air monitoring. Initial access problems have been resolved and EPA is working closely with state and local health and environmental agencies. The NYSDEC is the lead agency for this response and EPA is acting in a supporting role.
