On March 24, 2023, the EPA Region 7 Duty Officer was contacted by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MoDNR) to request opening a Federal Project Number (FPN) under the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund (OSLTF) for MoDNR response activities to a discharge of diesel fuel as a result of a truck accident that occurred on May 22, 2023, in DeSoto, Missouri. The diesel fuel impacted the ditch along Highway 21 and flowed to a culvert to Fritz Creek. The EPA Region 7 issued a Pollution Removal Funding Authorization (PRFA) to MoDNR on May 25, 2023, to initiate cleanup activities. The EPA personnel mobilized to the site on the afternoon of May 25, 2023, to coordinate response oversight activities with MoDNR, and oversee and document response operations. Cleanup activities were completed on May 26, 2023, and no additional response actions are planned.
